So it's only been under a year since the release of our first EP. But as you all may know, we've been busy writing and tracking demos for our upcoming full-length. We'll be using these to shop around and hopefully work with some bigger producers (well...bigger underground producers). We have a few in mind as we'd like to capture a very raw, intense sound for the new record as opposed to a more polished, over-produced one.
The wait is over. We'll be releasing 3 of the new songs this month. We feel it necessary to get an idea of what you all are thinking/saying about the new stuff. Thanks for your guys' patience as we've been talking about these new songs for quite a while now. We'll be posting them on our myspace (www.myspace.com/somastatemusic) very soon. See you all there.

The Year 2009
So this is it. The year 2000 and niner. It's crazy to think about how much has taken place in the previous year. '08 was quite generous to us. It's also very easy (as a band or individual) to feel like you didn't accomplish enough but we try hard at focusing on the positives vs. the negatives. Here are some positives things/things worth mentioning:
MARCH 2008 - WE RELEASED OUR FIRST EP
BOUGHT A SEXY-WHITE 15 PASSENGER VAN w/TRAILER
TOURED WESTERN CANADA 3X
(ASSUMED LOTS OF DEBT)
PLAYED WITH SOME REASONABLY REPUTABLE BANDS
HIT A DEER
WON 3RD PLACE IN CALGARY'S "BAND VS. BAND"
MET SOME GREAT BANDS/FANS/PEOPLE ON THE ROAD
(ASSUMED LOTS OF MORE DEBT)
RECEIVED SIGNIFICANT RADIO PLAY
LOST OUR GOOD FRIEND AND FOUNDING MEMBER, KYLE RYKS (BASS GEETAR)
WROTE PLENTY OF NEW SONGS
ESTABLISHED AN AMAZING FANBASE
DECEMBER 2008 - RECORDED 3 SONG DEMO IN PREPARATION FOR UPCOMING FULL-LENGTH
Now after taking some time off, we plan on setting some major goals for ourselves as we hope to give this thing a bigger, more intensive adrenaline shot to the ass. We're still in desperate need of a bass player but we're trying our very best to convince someone we know is a perfect fit (D. Man, you know who you are). In the meantime, we've been busy buckling down and preparing ourselves for the new record. So far we have approximately 8 songs and we just finished tracking 3 of which you may end up hearing sooner than you may think (shhhhh).
Hope all of you took advantage of the free download during Christmas. It was a gooder.

Gilliam Propaganda
So if you're not familiar with Terry Gilliam, you should be. He is the personification of pure genius. He is the mastermind behind movies like Brazil (inspired by Orwell's 1984), Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (Hunter S. Thompson), 12 Monkeys (inspired by the French short film La Jetée) and Time Bandits to name a few. If you haven't seen any of said movies, I highly recommend you blitzkrieg your local Blockbuster and snatch up any one of his films. You will not be disappointed. As you might be able to tell, I am a zealous fan and can't wait for his upcoming film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus starring Heath Ledger in his final attempt at living/acting. Teaser below.
