Shark Fin Ban
Within only 15 years, shark populations have plummeted in the Gulf of Mexico and Mediterranean Sea by approximately 90% and by 75% in the northwestern Atlantic Ocean according to recent research by the United Nations Environmental Program.

Nearly 73 million sharks are killed every year to supply Chinese consumers with their prized delicacy; soup.
Regardless, of whether or not shark-fin soup is considered a cultural tradition, world populations of ocean life were here first. They are an animal to be revered and to rationalize the careless slaughter of this species needs to be stopped.
We are a disgusting, parasitic race.

Welcome to Dystopia: Japan's Nuclear Nightmare
With thousands still unaccounted for and approximately ten thousand feared dead by officials, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said a partial meltdown at the Fukushiman Dai-ichi nuclear complex is under way. This follows suit after an 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit the northern coast of Japan, now leading to widespread tsunami warnings.

Nuclear core meltdown chain of events (the first four events have already occurred):
1. Failure of graphite control rods to dampen chain reaction of nuclear pile.
2. Core coolant failure as backup systems fail.
3. Reactor continues to create heat.
4. Emergency venting valve systems unable to release pressure build-up in containment vessel fast enough.
5. Uranium fuel melts metal containment housing as core temperatures soar past 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit.
6. Deadly radiation pours into reactor vessel.
7. Radiation then breaches the reactor vessel.
8. Finally, killing radiation escapes into the the surrounding environment and atmosphere and is swept towards U.S. West Coast.
Here's your dose of DAILYMAIL. Enjoy, humanity.

Alien Life Form
"Dr. Hoover has discovered evidence of microfossils similar to Cyanobacteria, in freshly fractured slices of the interior surfaces of the Alais, Ivuna, and Orgueil CI1 carbonaceous meteorites."However:
“[The Journal of Cosmology] isn’t a real science journal at all,” says PZ Meyers in Science Blogs, “but is the ginned-up website of a small group of crank academics obsessed with the idea of Hoyle and Wickramasinghe that life originated in outer space and simply rained down on Earth.”

Egypt in Turmoil

"Mubarak viewed President Bush as naive, controlled by subordinates, and totally unprepared for dealing with post-Saddam Iraq, especially the rise of Iran's regional influence," US ambassador says.
Mubarak was right. However, government suppression of free media and open-source information is the characteristic of a cruel dictatorship. Kifaya, meaning "enough" in Arabic, is a coalition of activists from different political backgrounds. It includes leftists, nationalists and Islamists and its aim is to discontinue Mubarak's authoritative reign.
In Cairo, more than 1,000 riot police prevented about 300 protesters from approaching the Supreme Court. In the southern city of Luxor, more than 1,000 people are said to have taken part in the protest.
President Mubarak, under US pressure through political reform, said in an interview that he has not decided whether to step down.
Unbeknownst to typical North Americans, we sit comfortably in our homes as mass violence and public riots erupt throughout Egypt.
Pay your respects. Pay attention.

Subpeona
Wake up.
As an individual, if you have trouble believing in a world where your privacy is compromised for internal investigations (criminal or not), then clearly you know very little about the 21st century in which you live. Have you deleted all your recent Facebook messages? How much of "you" is floating around out there online? What about emails and recurring passwords? Banking info, mailing addresses and more....
BE AWARE: all of this, all of you is haphazardly pouring itself out into the internet and much of it -- if not, all of it -- is not necessarily safe in the hands of law and governance.
Government subpoenas
Abuse of power towards Wikileaks, Julian Assange, Bradley Manning and the recent subpeona issued to Twitter are only but a few concrete examples of this. Learn our lesson.
